Whitney Dittmar, MA, LPC
EMDR Therapist for Athletes | Performance & Trauma Specialist
Listed in the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Mental Health Directory (2025) for the Mental Health Directory
I specialize in EMDR for athletes and high performers, helping elite high school, collegiate and professional competitors overcome performance blocks, trauma, anxiety, and nervous system dysregulation through focused EMDR Intensives and performance-based therapy.
As an EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant, I integrate EMDR therapy, attachment-based work, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal theory, and nervous system regulation tools, such as HeartMath biofeedback, to support both deep healing and peak performance. My work is designed specifically for athletes navigating performance anxiety, performance problems, yips, injury trauma, burnout, identity transitions, and relational stress within competitive systems.
I am listed in the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Mental Health Directory (2025) and have over 20 years of clinical experience across community mental health, private practice, and performance-focused therapy. Early in my career, I provided therapy in English and Spanish in diverse clinical settings, which deeply shaped my trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach.
As a former Division I athlete and spouse of a collegiate athlete, I understand firsthand the psychological demands of sport — the pressure to perform, the fear of letting others down, and the invisible weight athletes often carry. My practice was built specifically to address the gap between traditional therapy and the unique needs of competitive athletes.

Through EMDR Intensives for Athletes, clients often experience accelerated healing from sports trauma, improved emotional regulation under pressure, increased confidence, and greater mental flexibility during competition and recovery.
I am passionate about helping athletes and leaders transform past pain into resilience, clarity, and sustainable performance — both in sport and in life.
When I reflect on my journey, I can see that becoming a therapist was deeply connected to my own experience as a competitive athlete. Like many high performers, I carried unresolved sports trauma and performance pressure long after my career ended.
Two decades later, I experienced profound healing through EMDR therapy — healing that was truly life-changing. That work allowed me to integrate my athletic story with clarity, acceptance, and gratitude.
Today, I am passionate about helping athletes, coaches, and high performers access that same opportunity for healing. Whether the goal is enhanced performance, trauma resolution, or making peace with a past chapter, I believe EMDR can lead to a different outcome—one rooted in resilience, integration, and self-trust.
